Ukraine has received Patriot systems from Germany, thus strengthening its air defense.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“We have strengthened the Patriot component of our Ukrainian air defense. I thank Germany and personally Chancellor Friedrich Merz for this joint step to protect lives from Russian terror,” he said.
The President noted that the countries had been preparing this strengthening of air defense for some time, and now the agreements have been fulfilled.
“Russian air strikes are Putin’s main bet in this war, and it is with terror that he wants to compensate for the inability to achieve his insane goals on the ground,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader added that each strengthening of air defense brings Ukraine closer to ending the war. He emphasized that the less the aggressor country succeeds, the “greater will be its motive to end the war.”
“Together with our partners, we continue to work on building a reliable air defense system. And our capabilities will be able to guarantee the security of not only Ukraine, but also our partners when it is needed,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelenskyy noted that negotiations on further strengthening air defense are ongoing. They take place both at the level of governments and directly with system manufacturers.
Germany announced its intention to transfer Patriot systems from the Bundeswehr warehouses to Ukraine in early August 2025, two systems were delivered. The delivery was made with the financial support of Denmark, Lithuania, and Norway.
