Ukraine has carried out a new stage of humanitarian repatriation and returned the bodies of 909 servicemen killed in action in different areas of the frontline. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the headquarters, these are the fallen defenders who took part in hostilities in the Kurakhiv, Pokrovsk, Bakhmut, Vuhledar, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kharkiv directions. They also managed to return bodies from morgues in the Russian Federation.

It is noted that in the future, law enforcement officers and expert units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine will carry out identification procedures to establish their identities as soon as possible.

This is not the first case of the mass return of the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers. In April 2024, 909 fallen defenders were also returned, including those who were in Russian morgues.

The Ukrainian side regularly carries out similar activities in cooperation with international organizations and within the framework of a dialogue with the opposite side, preserving the principles of humanity even in times of war.

The last repatriation exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place on May 6, 2025.

As part of this exchange, 205 defenders returned to Ukraine: three officers and 202 soldiers and sergeants. This was the 64th exchange of prisoners of war since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In total, as of May 5, 2025, 64 exchanges of prisoners of war have taken place between Ukraine and Russia, as a result of which Ukraine returned 4,757 people.
