Ukraine has deployed interceptor missile units in several Middle Eastern countries. The main goal is to protect critical infrastructure and civilian facilities from airborne threats, particularly drone attacks, according to Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on the social media platform X, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
Specifically, missile interceptor units have been deployed to protect critical and civilian infrastructure in five Middle Eastern countries.
“The work focuses on two areas. The first is the use of Ukrainian technologies to counter air threats, particularly drone attacks. The second is consultations with partners on assessing the security situation and developing practical solutions for air defense based on Ukraine’s experience,” Umerov noted.
According to Umerov, Ukrainian experts assessed the protection of infrastructure facilities and developed practical solutions to enhance the effectiveness of air defense systems. Additionally, the parties identified next steps for developing long-term cooperation in the security sector. He also emphasized that Ukraine continues to collaborate with partners to strengthen security and protect the civilian population. Work is ongoing to expand the coverage areas of Ukrainian interception systems.
“Ukraine stands in defense of life and sovereignty alongside those who support us in preserving our independence. We seek to further strengthen our security partnership with our allies,” Umerov emphasized.
As noted, over the past week, Umerov visited the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan. He held meetings with government leaders and relevant agencies. Meanwhile, Ukrainian military experts are working in each of these countries under the coordination of the National Security and Defense Council.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that three professional military teams had been dispatched to the Middle East. They will operate in various countries across the region to combat Iranian drones.
