“Ukraine has developed missiles for 500 kilometers. And it does not produce them” – Snegirev

Ukraine plans to produce 30,000 long-range drones and three thousand cruise missiles in 2025, President Zelenskyy has said. However, according to military expert Dmytro Snegiryov, a logical question arises: why is this task being set only today? And why hasn’t our country been able to establish mass production of tactical missiles in the ten years of war with Russia?

Ukrainian potential: “Sapsan” and “Thunder-2”

According to the expert, back in 2016, the Ukrainian industry demonstrated the Sapsan or Grom-2 operational and tactical systems.

“The range of this system is 500 km. For comparison, ATACMS has only 300 km. At the same time, Saudi Arabia provided the money for the development of these systems. The question remains: why, after 10 years of war with Russia, do we not have our own ballistics and quality control systems, why did they not go into production either during the time of the previous president, who tore his embroidered shirt, or now?”

– the expert asks.

He emphasizes that even the missiles that have been developed and successfully tested in Ukraine are not going into mass production for some reason.

“Even if we take the last three years, there are statements that 4 types of missiles have been successfully tested, and they don’t even need to be tested. In 2016, they were demonstrated to the general public, walked along Khreshchatyk. And they were handed over to Saudi Arabia,”

– snegiryov says.

There is money, but no missiles

The expert draws attention to the problem of financing and claims that the state does have the money:

“They say that $300 million is missing. I’m sorry, but 17 billion was allocated for engineering and fortification structures in the Donetsk region, which no one has actually seen. We had no problem finding an additional 8 billion for the metro to Vynohradar. That is, the money is there. Then why are there no operational and tactical complexes?”

Experience of other countries

The expert also believes that the criticism about the impossibility of organizing the production of missiles in wartime is not true.

“Just look at Hamas and Hezbollah. These organizations were able to set up missile production in tunnels, with the support of the world’s most effective intelligence service, the Israeli Mossad. They built the tunnels themselves, launching points, and places for ballistic missiles to move,”

– emphasizes Snegiryov, adding that Ukraine inherited a powerful military-industrial complex with bomb shelters, underground bunkers, and tunnels from the USSR.

“We didn’t even need to build anything,” he adds,

– he adds.

Therefore, the situation with the lack of mass production of missiles in Ukraine is not only a matter of technical capabilities, but also of political will and priorities, says Snegirev. After all, with missiles of our own production, we could hit Russia as deeply as possible, and we would not need to ask anyone for permission.
