Ukraine will be the hottest country in Europe this week! Diana Kryvobok, a forecaster at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre, told Kommersant Ukrainsky in an exclusive commentary. Only Italy, Greece and Spain will have similar temperatures in Europe. However, while Spain’s heat came from the Sahara, Ukraine’s will come from Arabia. It is the Arabian air that brings the hottest weather to our country, according to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre.

“The hot air is spreading from the southeast and this time covers almost the entire territory of Ukraine, covering the western regions to a lesser extent. That is why the temperature there is much lower. There will also be precipitation in the West due to the passage of atmospheric fronts,” Diana Kryvobok

In particular, in the West of Ukraine there will be short-term rains with thunderstorms, heavy rains in some places, squally winds of 15-20 m/s. In the future, these atmospheric fronts will move in a northerly direction and northern regions. Short-term thunderstorms will occur in the Kyiv, Chernihiv and Zhytomyr regions.

“A prolonged heat wave in Ukraine will continue for a week [from 1 to 7 July – ed.] and temperatures will be recorded above normal every day, so you should be careful and drink plenty of water,” Diana Kryvobok

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre also noted that on 30 June, record temperatures were recorded in seven regions of Ukraine. These are Chernihiv, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Kropyvnytskyi, and Ivano-Frankivsk. In particular, Rivne recorded a temperature record for the entire history of weather observations, which have been conducted since 1945, on this day – almost 33°C. In Vinnytsia, the maximum temperature was 34.2°C. This is 2.6 degrees higher than the previous value recorded in 1963.

It should be noted that the maximum air temperature was recorded on 12 August 2010 at the Luhansk weather station – 42.0°C.

As for exotic natural phenomena, something like the Saharan dust we saw in April 2024 should not be expected in the near future,” the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre added.
