In the past year, Ukraine set a record for soybean production – 6 million tons. This is the highest figure in the history of the independent country, said minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval during the XVI International Conference “Doing Agribusiness in Ukraine”, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“We have achieved the production of 6 million tons of soybeans. This is a historical record, the largest figure in the history of Ukraine. We also recorded a record average milk yield per cow in agricultural enterprises – 6,565 liters. This is 7% more than the previous year. This is the largest annual growth in the last decade,” said the head of the Ministry.
The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy also said that by the end of 2024, Ukraine is expected to export more than 700 thousand tons of sugar, which will be the highest figure since 2000.
It is worth noting that Ukraine is one of the key players in the global soybean market, and this role continues to grow.
In recent years, Ukraine’s soybean acreage has expanded significantly, making the Ukrainian soybean sector one of the key sectors of the agricultural industry. Ukraine has favorable climatic conditions for growing soybeans, especially in the western and central regions of the country. Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Lviv, and Rivne regions are among the leaders. Thanks to the use of new technologies and varieties, soybean yields are gradually increasing, which allows for stable production volumes. Farmers are also capitalizing on the global demand for soybeans and soybean products, including soybean meal.
In the agricultural season 2023/2024, Ukraine entered the top 10 global soybean producers, ranking ninth. At the same time, Brazil retains the status of the largest producer – 149 mln tons of soybeans per year (39% share in the global production). Next are the United States with 113.34 million tons (29%), Argentina – 50 million tons (13%), China (20.8 million tons), India (11.8 million tons), and Paraguay (10.5 million tons). Ukraine is the number one soybean producer in Europe.
