Ukraine and NATO test a system for countering cabals

The NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center (JATEC), together with Allied Command Transformation (ACT), conducted the next phase of field testing of a comprehensive technical solution to counter guided aerial bombs (CAB). The tests took place at a training ground in France and were held in difficult weather conditions. This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs

Why it is needed

UAS – guided aerial bombs and similar unguided munitions – remain one of the most dangerous threats on the modern battlefield: they provide targeted strikes on infrastructure, military facilities and residential areas.

The development of systems for early detection and interception of such targets aims to reduce the risks to military units and civilians.

What was tested

“The development teams tested the operation of a complex technical solution – radar, artificial intelligence software and an interceptor drone – in difficult weather conditions,” the agency said.

The conditional “enemy” target was identified, tracked and captured by a radar equipped with the latest sensor system. After that, thanks to an AI-based software product, the interceptor drone followed a pre-calculated trajectory to engage the target.

As noted, the technological solution is being developed by companies from NATO member states with the participation of representatives of Ukraine’s innovative defense sector and the support of experts from the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The authors of the initiative are JATEC and Allied Command Transformation.

The development has gone from concept to prototypes of various levels of technological implementation and is designed to protect the Ukrainian military and civilians from one of the most destructive threats of modern warfare.

Currently, Ukrainian specialists are directly involved in the tests and provide expert advice, which allows us to maximize the adaptation of solutions to the realities of the modern battlefield.

The project to counter Russian guided aerial bombs began in March 2025 with the 15th NATO Innovation Competition at JATEC. The jury, consisting of experts from NATO ACT, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Unmanned Systems Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, selected three winners among 40 teams.
They are Alta Ares of France with AI detection algorithms, Tytan Technologies of Germany with interception systems, and ATREYD of France with swarms of container-based interceptors.
