On the night of November 5, Russian air defense forces shot down several Ukrainian drones over Orel, Orel Region Governor Andrey Klychkov said, [Komersant] reports.

“When some elements [of the drones] fell, several private houses and an outbuilding were damaged. There is currently no information about the victims,” Klitschkov wrote in his telegram channel. He added that employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and law enforcement agencies are working at the scene.

In turn, residents of Oryol reported on social media about explosions near the city’s thermal power plant. Some of them claimed that the attack was a missile attack. Before that, the CHP plant was hit less than a week ago, on October 31. At that time, the Ukrainian Navy stated that it was caused by Neptune cruise missiles. The target was the open switchgear (ODU) of the TPP, which receives, distributes and transmits electricity from the plant’s generators to power lines. After the previous strike, the power went out in Orla.

Also that night, Ukrainian drones attacked the energy infrastructure in the suburbs of Vladimir.

“Specialists are working on the spot. With the onset of daylight hours, we will begin to eliminate the consequences. Please remain calm,” Vladimir Region Governor Alexander Avdeev wrote on his telegram channel. He also noted that “all life support systems are operating normally.” According to Russian propaganda media, the attack targeted the Vladimirskaya substation, which is a key energy facility in the region and one of the elements of the unified Russian grid. The previous attack on the substation was also carried out on October 31.

According to the Defense Ministry’s report, overnight, Ukrainian air defense assets “intercepted and destroyed” 40 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones. Of these, 11 were over the Voronezh region, 8 over the Rostov region, 6 over the Kursk region, 5 over the Bryansk region, 2 over the Belgorod and Orel regions, and 5 over the occupied Crimea. Vladimir region is not mentioned in the report.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) began to strike at Russian energy facilities after Russia’s massive strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector. The day before, on November 4, a substation in the Kursk region was hit, leaving the city of Rylsk, Glushkovsky and Korenovsky districts, as well as settlements in the Belovsky district without electricity.
