Ukraine has entered the top 5 exporters of organic products to the EU: what is purchased most often

Ukraine has firmly established itself among the top five suppliers of organic products to the European Union. The European Union market remains key for Ukrainian producers today, with 93% of all domestic organic products being exported there. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a Facebook post by Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Taras Vysotsky.

Ukraine is among the leaders in the EU organic market

According to him, Ukraine has long ceased to be just a “newcomer” to the eco-products market. Every year, Ukrainian farmers supply more than 170,000 tons of organic goods, and our products account for 7% to 10% of total organic imports to the EU.

“The European Union remains our key market. Ukraine is consistently among the top suppliers of organic products to the EU, and we are doing everything we can to maintain this leadership,” Taras Vysotsky emphasized.

Despite the state’s efforts to stimulate domestic consumption, exports remain the main driver of the industry’s development.

How export volumes have grown

Statistics show the high resilience of the Ukrainian organic sector even in wartime.

2023 — 174,000 tons of organic products

2024 — 204,000 tons

The total value of Ukrainian organic products sold on world markets in 2024 reached $141 million.

What exactly does Ukraine export to the EU?

The following Ukrainian organic products are in highest demand in EU countries:

  • soybeans — 63,500 tons ($30.1 million);
  • corn — 61,700 tons ($11.8 million);
  • wheat and spelt — 12,000 tons ($18.2 million);
  • sunflower oil — 18.5 thousand tons ($13.9 million);
  • frozen blueberries — 9 thousand tons ($5.7 million).

Thus, Ukraine remains an important supplier of both organic raw materials and high value-added products.

How the state supports organic producers

To maintain its position in international markets, the state is updating its regulatory framework. The Verkhovna Rada’s Agricultural Committee has already supported in the second reading a new law on organic production, which aims to:

  • harmonize Ukrainian rules with European standards;
  • ensure uninterrupted access for exporters to EU markets;
  • strengthen confidence in the “organic products from Ukraine” brand.

“Together, we are making Ukrainian organic products even more competitive, recognizable, and in demand around the world,” Vysotsky concluded.
