Ukraine in NATO and criticism of the “collective West”: Zaluzhny made two important statements

Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhnyi has named two main points for Ukraine’s membership in NATO. The diplomat made this statement during a discussion at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House.

According to him, Ukraine will strengthen NATO by initiating changes.

“In my opinion, there are two main points that become a prospect for Ukraine’s accession to NATO. Firstly, there is no alternative to collective security in NATO at the moment. We want Ukraine to win, we want to end the war. To guarantee security, Ukraine joins NATO, and the Alliance becomes the guarantor of Ukraine’s security, including its restoration,” Zaluzhnyi said.

He also criticised the allies for delaying the delivery of weapons.

According to the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK, the reason for what is happening in Ukraine today is the natural consequences of the collective West’s reluctance to influence the global security system. The West did not believe in Ukraine, continued to fear the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin and escalation, which is why our Defence Forces failed to defeat the occupiers with a counter-offensive in 2023 and the country is now in a state of protracted war.

“The collective West did not believe in Ukraine. Therefore, the Western press, fearing Putin, gave Ukraine first three hours, then three days. Then, having come to Ukraine’s aid, the West, fearing either a nuclear war or escalation, did not provide Ukraine with the necessary amount of weapons, so we could not achieve any significant success in defeating Russia in 23rd year and entered a state of protracted war,” Zaluzhny said.
