Ukraine wins gold in group exercise at the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships for the second time in history

The Ukrainian rhythmic gymnastics team has won a historic victory at the 2025 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. The Ukrainians became champions in the final of group exercises with three balls and two hoops. This was reported by Champion, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The final took place on August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day. Yelyzaveta Azza, Diana Bayeva, Kira Shyrykina, Oleksandra Yushchak, and Valeria Peremet took to the carpet. The team got to the decisive round with the fourth result, but in the final they demonstrated a flawless performance and received 28.650 points from the judges.
This was enough to get ahead of the hosts of the championship, the Brazilian national team, which was only 0.100 points behind (28.550). The Chinese team won bronze with a score of 28.350. It was this exercise that concluded the World Cup program, and it was a triumph for the Ukrainian team.
For Ukraine, this gold is only the second gold medal in the group exercise at the World Championships. The last time the Ukrainians won the title was back in 2002 in the five-ribbon event. In addition, this victory was the first major victory since Anna Rizatdinova won the World Championships in the hoop exercise in 2013.
The Ukrainian national team finished the 2025 World Championships with three medals:
- gold in the group exercise;
- bronze in the team championship;
- taisiia Onofriichuk’sbronze in the individual competition, her first award at the world championship level.
Thus, Ukraine once again proved its high level of rhythmic gymnastics and gave the country a symbolic victory on the day of the main national holiday.
