President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected the visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Kyiv due to his participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan. This was reported by AFP, citing a source in the Office of the President of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
At the BRICS summit in Kazan, Guterres delivered a speech to Russian President Putin, calling for a “just peace” in Ukraine and an end to hostilities. He also reiterated that “the Russian invasion of Ukraine violated the UN Charter and international law”.
However, as reported , at the same time, the UN Secretary-General in Kazan shook hands with Putin and bowed before Russia’s chief criminal and nodded his head in submission to the Kremlin’s narrative.
“After Kazan, [Guterres] wanted to come to Ukraine, but the president did not confirm his visit. So he will not be here, precisely because of the humiliation of common sense and international law in Kazan,”
– the source said.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry criticised Guterres’ decision to visit Kazan and pointed out that he did not attend the peace summit organised by Ukraine in Switzerland in June.
“This is a wrong choice that does not contribute to the cause of peace. It only damages the reputation of the UN,”
– the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, Guterres was declared persona non grata in Israel due to his ambiguous reaction to Iran’s attack.
