This decree also invalidates the previous Decree of July 26, 2016, No. 311/2016, which celebrated the Day of the Special Forces on July 29. on July 29 each year, Ukraine celebrated a fairly young professional holiday – the Day of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces. The event was launched on July 26, 2016. This branch of the Armed Forces was formed on January 5 of the same year.

The Command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained the reason for the date’s postponement.

“On this day in 2014, soldiers of the Special Forces regiments, the future Special Operations Forces, together with their colleagues from other components of the Defense Forces, conducted an operation to liberate the new terminal of the Donetsk airport from enemy troops and planted the flag of Ukraine,” the statement said.

By a separate order of the Commander of the Special Operations Forces, Major General Oleksandr Trepak, July 29 was designated as the day of honoring the fallen soldiers of the Special Operations Forces.

What is the church holiday today

on May 27, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church commemorates the Ukrainian saint John Rusyn, a confessor who became famous for his miracles.

The righteous John Rusyn was born in the Ukrainian lands around 1690. During the war with Turkey, he was captured and sold into slavery in Caesarea Cappadocia.

John lived in a stable, but he did not despair because he remembered the nativity scene of Bethlehem. At night he prayed in the church of St. George, helping the poor, although he had nothing.

Despite the hardships of life as a slave, John remained a zealous Christian and was kind to everyone around him. Even his slave master respected him. After John’s death, all the Christians of the city came to the funeral.

When John died (in 1730), the owner called the priests and the righteous man was buried as a bishop. The saint’s relics turned out to be incorruptible, and three years later they were placed in the church where John loved to visit. Later, part of the relics were transferred to the monastery of St. Panteleimon on Athos, and part to the city of Neo Procopio (Greek island of Euboea), where they rest now.

Pilgrims come from all over the world to the holy relics of John, as the shrine heals people.
