Ukraine has set an “energy” record, – Shmyhal

Ukraine is the world’s leader in terms of power generators. This was was stated by prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a press conference on Tuesday, 10 August, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Today, Ukraine is the most generator-supplied country in the world, I am sure of it. Therefore, I am convinced that we will get through this winter, and we will do it steadily and confidently,” the head of the Ukrainian government said.
He added that 16,500 generators have been installed and are in operation in 12,000 medical facilities. According to him, the need remains, but not in tens of thousands, as it was last year, but in about 1800 high-capacity generators.
In addition, Denys Shmyhal reminded that Ukraine has several lending programmes for the purchase of power equipment for households and businesses.
What is the current situation with the energy sector in Ukraine?
According to the Prime Minister, the country is currently
- restoration and repair of the energy infrastructure is underway;
- energy facilities are protected by the first and second levels of protection, as well as by air defence and electronic warfare systems;
- eUR 560 million has been accumulated in the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund, partners have financed the purchase of 170 MW of equipment, and negotiations with ENTSO-E to increase electricity import limits to 2.2 GW are in the final stages;
- developing a decentralised power system;
- increasing the autonomy of critical infrastructure. More than 80% of schools and 100% of hospitals are equipped with generators. A total of 16.5 thousand powerful generators have been installed.
