Ukraine called for an Easter ceasefire: what Zelenskyy said
30 March 14:18
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays. He also discussed whether Russia would be able to strengthen its positions during this pause.
According to RBC-Ukraine, Zelenskyy made these remarks in comments to journalists, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“We have supported any format for ending the war, as you know, but as long as we do not lose the dignity and independence of our state, and a ceasefire—any format, as we have already discussed today, whether comprehensive or limited— we are ready for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays,” the president emphasized.
The head of state added that “normal people who respect life” are talking about a ceasefire and ending the war forever, not just for a few days.
“But, of course, we are ready for any compromises. Except for compromises regarding our dignity and sovereignty, as I said. As for strengthening Russia’s position in just 2–3 days—they won’t be able to strengthen anything in 2–3 days. We remember what they promised three days ago and what they failed to do,” Zelenskyy noted.
When is Easter celebrated in 2026
The date of Easter is variable and is calculated annually using a special method (the Paschal formula), which takes into account the spring equinox and the first full moon following it.
Due to the use of different calendar systems, the dates for Orthodox and Catholic celebrations often do not coincide. In 2026, Roman Catholics and most Protestant communities will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on April 5.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, April 12, Orthodox Christians will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.
