Ukraine strikes drone factory in Taganrog: what is known about the consequences
13 January 13:40
On the night of January 13, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a series of targeted strikes on Russian military facilities and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The key target was a drone manufacturing plant in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, Russia. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Strike on a drone factory in Taganrog
According to the military, as part of measures to reduce the enemy’s offensive capabilities, Ukrainian units used domestically produced missiles against the Atlant Aero enterprise in Taganrog.
This plant provides a full cycle of design, production, and testing of Molniya strike and reconnaissance UAVs, as well as components for Orion drones, which Russia actively uses to attack Ukraine.
Explosions and a fire were reported in the area of the production buildings. The final extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
What the SBU says
The Security Service of Ukraine reported that the strike on the plant was carried out by the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center in cooperation with units of the Ukrainian Navy.
The agency emphasized that shutting down such production facilities directly reduces Russia’s strike capabilities.
“Every production line that is shut down means hundreds of drones that will not fly over Ukrainian cities and kill civilians,” the SBU stressed.
Strikes on targets in the occupied territories
In addition to Taganrog, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of Russian military facilities in the temporarily occupied territories.
In the Zaporizhzhia region (TOT):
- the Tor air defense system in the Chereshnivyi area was hit;
- a Tunguska air defense system near Podsporye was destroyed;
- the P-18-2 “Prima” radar station in the Lozuvatka area was hit;
- a strike was carried out on the enemy’s manpower concentration near Lyubymivka.
In the Donetsk region (TOT):
- An ammunition depot and positions of Russian Federation personnel in the Makiyivka area were hit.
- A Tor air defense system near the village of Soniachne was destroyed.
Why these strikes?
The General Staff emphasizes that such operations are part of a systematic strategy to reduce the military-economic and offensive potential of the Russian occupation forces.
This involves not only the destruction of equipment, but also the disruption of production and supply chains for weapons, including drones.
