President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the advance of Russian troops in the east has been stopped and claims that the military situation is “much better than in the last three months”.
He said this in an interview with Le Monde and BFMTV, Kommersant Ukrainian reports![]()
“We had difficulties due to the lack of artillery ammunition, the air blockade, Russian long-range weapons and the high density of Russian drones,” he admitted.
However, according to him, “Russia’s advance has been stopped” and its army is “losing a large number of its vital forces”.
The President noted that the occupiers had destroyed Avdiivka and managed to seize Ukrainian territories, but they could no longer advance, having lost a large number of aircraft. “We are carrying out powerful actions in the Black Sea. I will not go into details, but I have received a report that shows very significant positive results,” Zelenskyy added.
At the same time, Zelensky noted that this statement could lose its relevance in “a month or a week” if the Ukrainian army does not receive sufficient support.
Earlier, The New York Times wrote that Russian troops are slowing down their offensive after rapid successes around Avdiivka and now their offensive has stalled in the area of three neighbouring villages.
According to the newspaper, Russia still retains the initiative on the battlefield, and military analysts say that its forces can still break through Ukrainian defence lines, in particular due to the lack of US military assistance.
However, for now, the fighting has turned into the inconclusive back-and-forth battles that characterised most of the frontline battles last year.
