Ukraine has been presented with a unique collection of art works dedicated to the Holodomor. About it reports [komersant[ with reference to the Ministry of culture and strategic communications.
“The heirs of the American businessman and philanthropist Morgan Williams gave Ukraine his collection of art dedicated to the Holodomor theme to the National Museum of Holodomor-genocide. The collection includes more than 300 paintings, prints, posters, stamps and documents,” the agency said.
The collection of paintings collected by Morgan Williams was exhibited both in Ukraine and in the United States during his lifetime.
This year Williams’ heirs together with the American-Ukrainian Business Council decided to transfer about 300 works of art to Ukraine.
The collection was donated to the National Holodomor-Genocide Museum in Kiev.
“He wanted this collection to be shown to the Ukrainian people and to the world so that there would be an opportunity to tell the story of these Soviet atrocities against people. And for it to be a cautionary tale or it would never happen again,” noted Morgan’s son, Deren Williams.
Williams’ family hopes that over time, the paintings he has collected will continue to tell the story of the crime of the Soviet regime and its genocide of Ukrainians.

In the late 1980s, Morgan Williams, who was not of Ukrainian descent, began his work in the field of international agricultural development in the former Soviet republics, and it was then that he became deeply enamored with Ukraine. Since then, preserving the memory of the Holodomor has become his main mission in life. Not only has he collected artwork on the subject, but he has inspired other artists to create works to bring the truth about the crimes of the Soviet regime to the world. Morgan Williams passed away on June 10, 2024 at the age of 84.
