The Hungarian airline Wizz Air has clarified the meaning of its recent social media campaign under the slogan “Ukraine, we’re coming home.” In response to a request from Suspilne, the airline explained that the campaign was exclusively about recruiting staff and promoting career opportunities for Ukrainians, and not about resuming flights. They also emphasized that they in no way intended to create the impression that flights were resuming,- reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The sole purpose of this campaign was to promote career opportunities at Wizz Air for Ukrainian citizens, as we remain committed to supporting the development of Ukrainian civil aviation. The campaign was in no way intended to create the impression of an (immediate) resumption of flights to or from Ukraine,” the airline stated.

Wizz Air emphasized that due to the war and the closed airspace, resuming operations is currently impossible. However, the carrier reaffirmed its commitment to the Ukrainian market.

“At the same time, Wizz Air remains committed to the Ukrainian market and looks forward to returning as soon as it becomes possible. We sincerely hope for a swift end to the war and that we will be able to resume flights and once again connect Ukraine with the rest of Europe. To make this possible, we need to carry out preparatory work in advance, involving Ukrainian specialists and supporting the development of the local economy,” the airline noted.

Wizz Air also noted that the company aims to be among the first to return to Ukraine once the situation changes. They also apologized for the ambiguous communication:

“We sincerely apologize for any misunderstandings our campaign may have caused. All materials have already been removed from our platforms. We will review their content to ensure the clearest possible communication in the future and avoid similar situations.”

Earlier, an ad titled “Ukraine, we’re coming home” appeared on Instagram, which led to a registration form for a virtual session for pilots.

As a reminder, Wizz Air is a Hungarian low-cost airline founded in 2003 that specializes in affordable flights in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
