What is known about the Ukraine-US-Russia peace talks
On December 14-15, 2025, in Berlin, a Ukrainian delegation led by Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with the US on a 20-point peace plan to end the war. Following the meeting, NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov said that the talks were “productive and the parties managed to achieve some progress.”
On December 24, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that the parties discussed four documents during the talks. According to him, Washington is trying to understand what Moscow is willing to do to end the aggression.
On December 28, Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago. The presidents agreed on a 20-point peace plan 90% and security guarantees 100%. They then held a joint telephone conversation with European leaders for further meetings to finalize these documents.
Russia also reviewed the documents on ending the war against Ukraine but did not give its clear consent.
On January 23-24, trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). The discussions focused on ending the war and the further process of peace agreements.
NSDC Secretary Umerov noted that the goal of the talks was “to move toward a dignified and lasting peace.” A White House representative described the meeting as “productive” in a comment to Suspilne.
Zelensky previously emphasized that the key issues remain the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and the Ukrainian delegation expects concrete answers from Russia regarding the end of the war.
On February 4 and 5, negotiations were held in Abu Dhabi with the participation of the Ukrainian, American, and Russian sides. The discussions lasted about five hours. On February 5, the discussions continued.
Umerov announced the start of negotiations at around 12:00 p.m., and in the evening noted that after the trilateral meeting, work continued in a group format. Umerov later said that during two days of negotiations in Abu Dhabi, the delegations of Ukraine, the US, and Russia discussed, in particular, methods of implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities.
On February 13, it became known that the next round of negotiations between the US, Ukraine, and Russia would take place on February 17-18 in Geneva. Ukrainian presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn confirmed this during a conversation with Suspilne, following an earlier statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
On February 14, Umerov said that an energy truce could be discussed at the talks in Geneva.
On February 15, Zelensky announced consultations he had held with Trump’s representatives Steve Wiggins and Jared Kushner ahead of the meeting in Geneva.
