Almost 95,000 students chose to continue their education in 2024 with vocational training. In total, 219,438 people started studying at vocational schools this year. This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The ministry notes a change in the trend of enrollment in vocational schools in 2024, as students demonstrate a willingness to choose professions that businesses need today and will be in demand in the future.

As you know, the admission campaign for vocational schools ended in October, and the most popular professions chosen for study were cook, car mechanic, electric and gas welder, pastry chef, driver and tractor driver. It is noteworthy that the top ten most sought-after professions in the Ukrainian labor market in terms of the number of vacancies on job search sites include cooks, drivers, and mechanics.

“Laboring professions are the backbone of Ukraine’s economy, especially during the reconstruction period. Our task is to explain that vocational education is about making a conscious choice, because the motivation to choose these specialties should come not only from the labor market demand, but also from the students’ understanding that they can fully realize themselves and build a successful career by choosing a vocational school,” said Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi.

Results of the admission campaign

The leaders among the regions that have received the most applications for training under the regional order are:

Dnipropetrovs’k region – 5423 students,

Lviv region – 4829 students,

м. Kyiv – 4526 students.

The three regions that received the most applications for state-funded training are:

Kharkiv region – 809 students,

Odesa region – 435 students,

Khmelnytsky region – 426 students.

It is important that the volume of regional order fulfillment is 92%, which is 4% higher than in 2023 (88%). This demonstrates a positive trend in how institutions are adapting to the needs of local businesses.

This year, for the second time, applicants were able to apply for admission online. In 2024, 7261 students submitted such applications.

To make it easier to choose a profession and a specific vocational school, the Ministry created an additional website at the beginning of the admission campaign – Proftekh online. In 4 months, organic traffic to the site amounted to 72 thousand views, with the most active applicants coming from Lviv, Kyiv, and Poltava regions.
