Hromadske Radio was forced to stop broadcasting in Hirnyk, Donetsk Oblast, due to the difficult security situation. This was reported on the radio itself, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

The radio station dismantled its equipment, which had been operating at 91.4 FM since 2018.

According to Tetyana Kurmanova, the head of the board of Hromadske Radio, broadcasting has been lost in the city recently due to constant shelling and power outages.

“Unfortunately, we are now in a situation where we cannot ensure the safety of the employees of the TV and radio centre who have been maintaining our equipment. We had to dismantle it,”

– kurmanova explained.

Despite the cessation of broadcasting on the usual frequency, residents of Hirnyk still have the opportunity to listen to Hromadske Radio. The station can be heard at 99.6 FM, which is broadcast from Pokrovsk and reaches Hirnyk. In addition, the radio remains available through its official website and mobile app.

Hromadske Radio and the occupation

Hromadske Radio is a Ukrainian non-governmental radio station founded in 2013 by a group of professional journalists. This initiative continued the traditions of the first Hromadske Radio, created in 2002 by Oleksandr Kryvenko, which ceased to exist in 2005.

The modern Hromadske Radio started broadcasting on 1 December 2013 on the waves of a partner radio station. In 2015, the radio station received its own frequencies to broadcast in different regions of Ukraine. As of 2019, Hromadske Radio broadcast on 16 transmitters in six regions of Ukraine.

Hromadske Radio is funded by donations from institutions and individuals, as well as grants from international organisations. The radio station regularly reports on its finances and conducts crowdfunding campaigns to support its activities.

Due to the Russian aggression, Hromadske Radio was forced to stop broadcasting live in several cities under occupation: Mariupol, Volnovakha, Bakhmutivka, Bilovodsk, Bilolutsk, Zorynivka, Lysychansk, Oleshky, and Starobilsk.
