Ukrainian wine – into molecules: a quality laboratory for wine products will be launched in Ukraine

Ukraine is creating an independent certification center to control the quality of wine products. This is a laboratory for isotope analysis. The laboratory’s findings will help consumers distinguish real wine from a wine drink.
Volodymyr Pechko, chairman of the Ukrsadvynprom association, said this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
Mr. Pechko noted that the laboratory has already been set up, but changes in legislation are needed for it to work properly. This is currently being actively worked on.
“Soon, you will no longer see wine on supermarket shelves at UAH 120 per bottle if it is real wine. If the drink costs UAH 120, the bottle will say ‘wine drink’. And this will be fair to the consumer.
Ukrainians have the right to choose: a wine drink or wine. It’s like with cheese: there is cheese and there is a cheese product. People choose what they like. It is the same with wine and wine drinks,” Pechko explained.
The Ukrainian wine industry has been actively developing in recent years.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, there are more than 140 official wine producers in the country, and vineyards cover about 40 thousand hectares.
In 2022, Ukraine joined the International Organization of Grapes and Wine (OIV), which opened access to global quality control standards and new markets. Participation in international competitions has already brought Ukrainian wines medals and recognition, but quality control and protection against counterfeiting remain one of the main challenges.
