Ukrainian NPPs reduce generation capacity after enemy strike

Ukrainian nuclear power plants have reduced their generation capacity after the nighttime Russian strike, and returning to nominal values will be possible after restoration work.

This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to a briefing by the acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov.

“As a result of the massive attack by the Russian Federation on the energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants were forced to reduce their generation capacity,” Nekrasov said.

According to him, the increase in generation of nuclear power plants to nominal values will take place gradually as soon as the power industry restores the networks damaged by the enemy.

“This (the Russian strikes – ed.) is a gross violation of international nuclear safety requirements, which ensures the own needs and power output of nuclear power plants, and it should not remain unnoticed by the international community,” the acting Energy Minister of Ukraine added.

Russia’s blow to the energy sector

According to the Ministry of Energy, as a result of the night attack, consumers in Rivne, Ternopil, and Khmelnytsky regions were almost completely cut off from electricity in the morning.

There are also power outages caused by shelling in Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, Dnipro and Kharkiv regions. Emergency repair works will be started as soon as the security situation allows.

The Russians also attacked DTEK’s thermal power plants, damaging the equipment of the thermal power plants.

As a reminder, Russian troops launched another combined attack on the territory of Ukraine at night, using attack drones and missiles. It is known that the enemy used more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles.
