Ukraine continues to monitor the pricing of medicines. Since the beginning of March 2025, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection has received 1156 complaints from citizens regarding prices in pharmacies. This led to inspections that revealed violations of pricing rules, for which companies were fined a total of UAH 213.4 thousand. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
Large-scale inspections: results for March
Since the beginning of March, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection has received 1156 complaints from citizens. Residents of Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Lviv, Poltava, Ternopil, and Kharkiv regions were the most active in complaining.
During this period, 44 inspections were conducted, which revealed violations in the pricing of medicines.
Based on the results of the inspections, administrative and economic sanctions in the amount of UAH 213.4 thousand were imposed on pharmacies. In addition, officials were brought to justice and fined UAH 27 thousand.
Serhiy Tkachuk, Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, said:
“The order of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy must be fulfilled. Prices for medicines should be affordable for our citizens.”
Daily monitoring of prices
Specialists of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection not only respond to complaints, but also conduct active monitoring. As of March 28, 18.6 thousand observations of price fluctuations for medicines were made. This approach allows us to quickly identify speculation and take measures to stabilize the market.
Together with the Ministry of Health and the State Service on Medicines and Drugs Control, the Service is working to increase transparency in pricing and prevent manipulation of the cost of medicines.
Why have inspections been resumed?
On March 1, 2025, inspections of pharmacies for compliance with pricing legislation resumed in Ukraine. This decision was a response to numerous appeals from citizens about inflated prices for medicines, which are critical for many Ukrainians, especially during the war.
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection has taken over control of compliance to protect consumer rights and ensure the availability of medicines.
