In March, mine action operators returned more than 430 hectares of agricultural land to farmers who joined the state compensation program. The total area of land cleared of mines for farmers since the start of the program is more than 1,100 hectares. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

More than 430 hectares cleared in March alone

According to the Ministry of Economy, in March, mine action operators returned more than 430 hectares of agricultural land to farmers who joined the demining compensation program. In total, since the start of the program, farmers have received more than 1,100 hectares of safe land for cultivation.

“Mine action operators are actively working on clearing the territories under the agreements concluded. The first thousand cleared lands and active participation of farmers in the program prove that the state program is effective and gives the desired result,” emphasized Ihor Bezkaravaynyi, Deputy Minister of Economy.

Auctions and new agreements: how the program is being scaled up

In March, the Center for Humanitarian Demining held 11 open auctions, with more than 3.8 thousand hectares of land for demining.

The Center also concluded three new agreements for the performance of works, which allows more active involvement of operators in the clearance of agricultural areas.

Innovations are in the focus of the state

The Government of Ukraine is actively working to introduce innovations in demining. The National Mine Action Authority supported the decision to accelerate the introduction of the latest technologies. The Ministry of Economy, together with the Ministry of Defense, is already working on a regulatory framework that will allow innovative solutions to be used in practice.

This means faster demining, higher efficiency and less strain on resources.

UNITED24 and new sources of funding

Another strategic decision is the ability to use funds raised on the UNITED24 platform to pay for humanitarian demining services.

This opens up additional sources of funding and allows us to expand the scale of clearance in the shortest possible time.

Grants from international partners

For the first time, Ukraine’s partners have allocated direct funds for demining. In particular, the Italian Cooperation Development Agency announced a competition for land clearance in the frontline regions of Ukraine. Projects can be implemented through Italian non-profit organizations that can engage Ukrainian demining operators.

This approach not only strengthens international support, but also promotes the development of local performers and the creation of new jobs in Ukraine.
