Ukrainian restaurants don’t survive to two years: how many have closed this year

Since the beginning of the year, more than 10,000 cafes and restaurants have ceased operations in Ukraine, and half of them have existed for less than a year and a half.
This is evidenced by the data of Opendatabot, which analyzed the activities of individual entrepreneurs in the field of public catering (HoReCa), "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Dynamics of openings and closings
Despite the full-scale war, 13,373 new establishments opened in Ukraine in 2025. This is 5% less than in the same period last year.
The most active month was September, when 1,699 new cafes and restaurants appeared.
However, 10,645 businesses closed. The net increase amounted to only 2,728 new establishments, three times less than last year.
Most of the new HoReCa fops were opened in:
- Kyiv –1,693
- In Dnipropetrovska oblast – 1,323
- lviv region – 1 136
- in Odesa region – 1 113
- in Kyiv region – 1 054
A quarter of the businesses closed this year had been in operation for less than six months.
At the same time, the oldest business that closed in 2025 had been operating since 1992.
Revenue and customer behavior
According to the Poster service, despite the slowdown in the opening of new establishments, revenue increased by 6%.
It is reported thatthis growth was not due to visitors, but to price increases.
- Attendance fell by 9%,
- The average check grew by 11%.
The trend is similar in the largest cities:
- Kyiv – -13%
- Dnipro – -11%
- Lviv – -8%, and
- Odesa – -6%
- Kharkiv – -7%.
As a reminder, on October 22, 2025, the 50th anniversary McDonald’s restaurant opened in Kyiv in a top location near the main entrance of the Kyiv Zoo at 32 G Beresteysky Avenue. This is the 117th operating restaurant of the chain out of 132 in Ukraine.
