The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has introduced additional admission to higher education institutions for Ukrainian citizens who have completed their studies in Poland and passed the matura exam (egzamin maturalny).
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
What does the innovation entail?
According to Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, Ukrainian universities can now accept matura certificates as a basis for enrollment.
“We have opened additional admission for high school students who have completed the school year in Poland and passed the matura exam. Thus, after changing the conditions for foreigners to enter Polish universities, we offer Ukrainians an alternative – without losing time and opportunities,” emphasized Lisovyi.
The additional admission applies only to Ukrainian citizens who have graduated from a Polish lyceum or technical school and have a valid matura certificate. To participate in the selection process, you must pass at least four subjects: Polish language, mathematics, and two more subjects of your choice.
The results of matura are converted into a 100-200-point system in accordance with the Appendix to the Procedure for Admission to Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions.
The Unified State Electronic Database on Education (USEDE) has already implemented the possibility of submitting applications based on the results of matura. Documents can be submitted directly through universities, including remotely. The deadline for submitting applications is determined by the universities themselves, but the final enrollment must take place no later than October 20.
Important: enrollment is based exclusively on a contract, but applicants may apply for an educational grant. This does not affect the already allocated state-funded places.
What is Matura?
“Matura is a standardized graduation exam in Poland after completing secondary education. It includes written and oral tests in Polish, a modern foreign language, and mathematics. Students also take at least one subject at the advanced level. The matura certificate is the main document for admission to Polish universities.
In August 2025, Poland tightened the requirements for foreigners who want to enter its universities. Among other things, applicants need to prove their knowledge of the language of instruction at least at the B2 level, which has made it more difficult for citizens of other countries, including Ukrainians, to enter.
In response, the Ministry of Education and Science proposed an alternative – using matura results for admission to Ukrainian universities, so that children from Ukrainian families who graduated from schools in Poland would not lose the opportunity to receive higher education without a pause in their studies.
