Ukrainian women will be trained at state expense in professions dominated by men

The government is launching a project to train women at public expense in professions where employers have traditionally relied on men. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made the decision at a meeting on November 15. This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs.
As noted, Ukrainian women will be able to master more than 30 professions and find employment in areas where they were less represented.
“Women will be able to master more than 30 professions at public expense, including the most popular among employers. Business will be able to train the necessary specialists, the shortage of which it is now acutely aware of,” said Yulia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.
Under the terms of the project, women will be trained at the request of the employer. The employer is obliged to employ them after graduation.
What professions can women learn?
Women are invited to master the following “male” professions:
– tram, trolleybus, and forklift driver;
– operator of machine tools with programmable control;
– milling machine operator;
– renewable energy systems installation and maintenance technician.
The list includes other professions.
How the pilot project will work
To order training, an employer must contact an employment center. The specialist will be able to choose an educational institution independently from the list of institutions that provide training in the profession.
The Employment Center pays for training in the amount of no more than 10 subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons. As of today, it is UAH 30,280. If the cost of training exceeds this amount, the difference can be paid by the employer or project participant.
How else can women change their profession?
There are programs for training in new professions and retraining implemented by the State Employment Service.
For people who are not registered with the State Employment Service, there is an opportunity to receive a training voucher. This is a document that allows you to upgrade your qualifications or acquire a new profession free of charge according to the list of 155 professions and specialties approved by the Ministry of Economy.
Since the beginning of 2024, more than 20 thousand Ukrainians have received a voucher, including 15.4 thousand women.
