The problem of labour shortages may become one of the key factors affecting the Ukrainian economy in the near future. This is stated in a survey conducted by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the survey, the continued practice of layoffs and the worsening problem of finding qualified personnel may be a key factor that will hit Ukraine’s economy. The surveyed entrepreneurs named the lack of labour as one of the three main obstacles to business, along with the threat of working in the war zone and rising prices.
The survey data shows that 49% of respondents complain about the lack of staff. At the same time, almost 56% of respondents named insecurity as the biggest obstacle, which is the highest figure since the beginning of the war.
At the same time, researchers note a clear trend towards stagnation or a decrease in positive business expectations for the next two years. This is attributed to the fact that entrepreneurs are getting used to the idea that the war will last for a long time.
At the same time, there are positive signals: for almost a year now, companies have been consistently having an order book of more than three months. And the index of business activity recovery in May rose from 0.33 to 0.40 (on a scale from -1 to 1)
The researchers also note that for the first time in two years, the percentage of businesses operating at full capacity exceeded 15% and amounted to 18% in May.
In general, experts emphasise that labour shortages may slow down the country’s economic recovery in the near future.
