Ukrainian filmmaker Sentsov becomes a battalion commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ukrainian film director and screenwriter Oleg Sentsov, who was a political prisoner in Russia from 2014 to 2019, has become a commander of one of the battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This became known on Saturday evening, September 13, during the YES conference in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reports, "Komersant Ukrainian".

Sentsov has been appointed to the position of battalion commander of the 47th separate mechanized brigade “Magura”, the report says.

The filmmaker joined the territorial defense of Kyiv in March 2022, shortly after the start of Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine. He was subsequently transferred to the 47th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he rose from platoon commander to assault company commander. He served in this position for four months, after which he was promoted to head a battalion.

During his military service, the director repeatedly took part in fierce battles, including near Avdiivka, and was wounded several times. in 2023, he publicly confirmed for the first time that he had been wounded in battle and that he was being treated in a hospital. Then Oleg Sentsov returned to the front after his concussion.
