Ukrainian swimmer becomes world junior champion

Ukrainian swimmer Nikita Sheremet has won a gold medal at the Junior World Swimming Championships, which are taking place in Otopeni, Romania. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Suspilne Sport.
He won the 50-meter freestyle final with a time of 21.99 seconds, beating the British Jacob Mills by 0.03 seconds.
Sheremet began his journey to the final by winning the qualifying round, where he updated his national record. In the semifinals, he repeated the junior world record of 21.75 seconds, but did not surpass this result in the final. It was Sheremet who became the fastest and won the first gold medal for the Ukrainian junior national team at the 2025 World Championships.
This is Ukraine’s first victory in the 50m freestyle since 2019, when Vladyslav Bukhov won gold.
Nikita’s next start is the 100m freestyle qualification, which will take place on Saturday, August 23.
By the way, Ukraine has won its first medal at the European Junior Swimming Championships in the Slovak city of Šamorin.
Nikita Sheremet won silver in the 50-meter freestyle.
The Ukrainian finished second with a time of 22.17 seconds. Tayus Yuska from Lithuania won gold with a 0.03 second advantage (22.14 seconds). The bronze medalist was Spain’s Luca Hook le Genedal (22.28 seconds).
