Fewer new cars are being bought on the domestic market in Ukraine. Experts have named the most popular models in June, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing data from Ukravtoprom.

Last month, about 5.2 thousand new passenger cars were added to the Ukrainian car fleet.

66% of the total number of cars sold in June were to private customers, and 34% were to legal entities. Compared to June last year, sales of new passenger cars decreased by 6% in the private segment and by 11% in the corporate segment.

The following models were preferred in the private sector:

  • TOYOTA RAV-4 – 337 units;
  • HONDA M-NV – 136;
  • RENAULT Duster – 111;
  • MAZDA CX5 – 105;
  • SUZUKI SX4 – 100.

Legal entities preferred the following cars:

  • RENAULT Duster – 336 units;
  • MITSUBISHI L200 – 109;
  • TOYOTA RAV-4 – 87;
  • TOYOTA Camry – 65;
  • SKODA Octavia – 60.

Last month, the largest regional markets for new passenger cars in Ukraine were: Kyiv city, Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Odesa regions, according to Ukravtoprom.

These regional markets accounted for 63% of June sales of new passenger cars.

Kyiv residents bought 1,881 cars during the month (7% less than last year).

Residents of Kyiv region bought 466 units (-8%).

In Dnipropetrovska oblast, 377 units were registered (-15%).

In Lviv region – 279 units (-6%);

In Odesa region – 261 units (-13%).

The bestseller in June on the Kyiv new car market was the RENAULT Duster, while in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv and Odesa regions the leading position belonged to another crossover – the Toyota RAV-4.

It should be noted that demand for cars with traditional engines is falling in Ukraine. In June 2024, cars with traditional engines accounted for more than 61% of the new passenger car market. Last year, this figure was 71%.

Petrol-engined models remain the most popular, accounting for 36.9% of June new car sales, down almost 10 percentage points from June 2023.

At the same time, the share of diesel cars remained almost unchanged at 24.7%.

The share of hybrids increased significantly from 18% to 22.9%.

The electric vehicle segment also grew from 10.5% to 15.2%.

As in the previous year, CNG cars accounted for less than 1% of new car sales.

The statistics show the growing popularity of electric vehicles in Ukraine and indicate the regions where these cars are in greatest demand. The demand for electric vehicles grew by 68% over the year.

Meanwhile, the West is fighting the Chinese electric car industry: The EU is ready to take tough measures against Chinese electric cars, and the US will quadruple tariffs on them.
