Ukrainians have become an active subject, but the government does not articulate the national idea, – Havrysh

Former First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Stepan Havrysh said in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian" that Ukraine is going through one of the most difficult periods in its history, but society is showing unprecedented activity and readiness for change. At the same time, he said, the government does not offer citizens a strategic vision of the country’s future.
Havrysh emphasized that the current war has become “a difficult and almost fatal lesson for Ukrainians.”
“We have learned a bitter, difficult and extremely close to fatal lesson. Will we be able to pass these lessons? I think so. The Ukrainian nation learns quickly from failures and mistakes, and it becomes an active subject in itself,” he said.
According to him, Ukrainians have never been as active in political processes as they have been in recent decades:
“They have, in fact, dealt with two oligarchs on two Maidans and brought a completely different team to power. But we see that the time has come for new politicians of the technocratic class, perhaps more philosophers, but most of all Ukrainians.”
Havrysh criticized the government ‘ s lack of a clear state ideology and strategic vision.
“We don’t hear from the Ukrainian president or his political entourage about the national idea of Ukraine, about Ukrainian statehood, about the future of Ukraine, about the creation of a new constitutional process, about reforms of the political system,” he said.
In his opinion, one of the main mistakes of society is the inability to convince the authorities to become “part of the national liberation war.”
“It is a serious failure of ours that we got to power and failed to convince the leaders of the state to become part of this war,” Havrysh said.
Despite the criticism, he expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to achieve strategic results.
