Ukrainians will be able to see the brightest starfall of the year: when to watch
3 January 18:44
On the night of January 3 to 4, Ukrainians will see the strongest meteor shower of the year – the Quadrantid meteor shower. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to CNN.
The best time to observe this cosmic phenomenon is after midnight Kyiv time. Ukrainians will be able to see up to 120 shooting stars per hour.
The Quadrantids are believed to be caused by an asteroid that was discovered only 19 years ago, called 2003 EH with a period of 5 years around the Sun.
Although Quadrantids do not have long, constant streams stretching behind them, they are capable of creating bright fireballs. These are bright explosions of light and color associated with larger particles that linger longer than typical meteor showers.
Meteors are fragments of broken asteroids and comet particles that fly in dust plumes in orbits around the Sun. Every year, the Earth passes through these debris trails, and the pieces of dust and rocks break up in our planet’s atmosphere to create colorful, fiery displays called meteor showers.
