Ukrainians in Israel may be deported in 2025: what is happening
5 December 02:33
Thousands of Ukrainians in Israel under the group protection regime may lose their legal status by the end of 2025. This was reported by Haaretz, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The status, which allows Ukrainian citizens to live, work, and receive basic social services from 2022, is expiring – and there is still no decision on its extension.
What happened
After the full-scale invasion of Russia, Israel introduced temporary group protection for Ukrainians. It gives the right to legal stay without individual consideration of each case.
However, the status is now coming to an end, and the Israeli government has neither made a decision to extend it nor provided clear explanations to people in the country.
If the status is not extended, tens of thousands of Ukrainians will automatically be at risk of deportation.
Important: changes for entry from 2025
On January 1, 2025, Israel introduced a mandatory electronic permit ETA-IL for citizens of visa-free countries, including Ukraine.
Even a short tourist trip now requires prior online registration.
Israel’s position on the war
In 2022, the Israeli authorities declared that they were neutral on the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Israel does not provide Ukraine with weapons, but it does provide humanitarian aid and supports certain social programs for refugees.
