Ukrainians urged to stock up on water and food for 3–5 days: recommendations from the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Due to the emergency situation in the energy sector, Ukrainians are asked to take care of basic household preparedness in advance. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has published a list of recommendations to help people cope with possible interruptions in electricity and heat supply. This was reported by the press service of the ministry, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What supplies are recommended to prepare
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends stocking up at home for 3-5 days, including:
- drinking and technical water;
- long-life food products;
- necessary medicines.
“During an energy emergency, make sure you are prepared. We recommend stocking up at home for 3-5 days,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
“Essential suitcase”: what to include
Separately, the Ministry of Internal Affairs advises to first pack an emergency suitcase. It should include:
- documents;
- warm clothes;
- first aid kit;
- heating devices;
- personal hygiene items;
- sufficient cash.
Check your food, transportation, and fuel supplies
Ukrainians are also urged to:
- check the charge of power banks and other backup power sources;
- assess the technical condition of their vehicles;
- make sure you have enough fuel.
Don’t forget about your pets — it is recommended to prepare a supply of food for them in advance.
Increased vigilance and safety
The agency emphasizes that the situation requires increased discipline and vigilance. Citizens are asked to:
- be prepared for enhanced security measures;
- to follow official announcements from state authorities;
- take care of the safety of children;
- avoid being outside after dark unless absolutely necessary.
How to keep warm during power outages
In case of problems with heat and electricity supply, the Ministry of Internal Affairs advises to follow the basic rules for heating your home:
- stay in one room, preferably the smallest one;
- dress warmly;
- use heaters;
- maintain light physical activity.
