“Ukrenergo changes power outage schedules: electricity consumption has increased
11 July 2024 12:24
Today, on 11 July, regional power companies are applying consumption restrictions throughout the day. From 16:00 to 23:00, four rounds of blackouts will be used to compensate for the energy shortage in the system, and three rounds will be used at other times. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to NPC Ukrenergo.
“The reason is a significant increase in consumption due to the abnormal heat in Ukraine and Europe against the backdrop of the existing significant energy shortage in the system, which is a consequence of Russian terrorist attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector. Since the beginning of the year, the Russians have carried out 8 massive attacks on the energy system. As a result, the country has lost 9 GW of production capacity at Ukrainian power plants. This capacity is equal to the summer peak hour consumption of such European countries as the Netherlands or Finland, or Slovakia and the Baltic States together,”
– the statement said.
Ukrenergo noted that the temperature in the country exceeds 30 C. According to the forecast of the Ukrenergo Dispatch Centre, today’s peak consumption is 7% higher than yesterday.
Last night, in order to reduce the deficit, Ukrenergo engaged emergency supplies from the power systems of Poland and Slovakia.
Today, a total of 28,487 MWh of electricity will be imported from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova, with a maximum capacity of 1,444 MW. No exports are taking place and are not planned.
As of thismorning , 510 settlements inUkraine remain without power. There is a power outage in Sumy region due to bad weather. And due to the hostilities, there are power outages in Dnipropetrovska, Donetska, Zaporizka, Sumska, Kharkivska and Khersonska oblasts.
For technical reasons: consumers in Rivne, Dnipropetrovska, Zaporizka, Sumska oblasts lost power.
“The technical reasons for the outages are related to the impact of heat on high-voltage equipment and power lines, as well as the consequences of hostilities in the frontline regions,”
– Ukrenergo clarified.
