Ukroboronprom enterprises are gradually moving to the production of NATO-calibre ammunition – 60-mm mortar shells. This was stated by Director General of the Ukrainian Defence Industry Joint Stock Company Herman Smetanin during the EU-Ukraine Defence Industries Forum held in Brussels, Belgium, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Smetanin said that the company’s enterprises have not only established and are scaling up the mass production of artillery shells and Soviet-calibre mortar shells, but are also gradually moving to the production of NATO-calibre ammunition – 60mm mortar shells.
“We know the approximate volume of ammunition production at Russian enterprises and those of their partners. We understand that our own capacities, even with a large increase in production, are not enough to wage war on parity. Therefore, the task of UOP enterprises and Ukraine’s allies is to provide our Defence Forces with enough ammunition to liberate the temporarily occupied territories,”
– said the head of the Company.
He noted that Ukroboronprom is open to dialogue with European partners and is ready for various formats of cooperation, including the creation of new joint ventures.
“At the same time, it is necessary to provide insurance for investments and new capacities that will be created. This can be done with the help of European funds or Russian sovereign assets seized in Europe,” he added,
– added the head of Ukroboronprom.
It should be noted that in January it became known that the German defence concern Rheinmetall intends to build a new ammunition plant to meet the needs of Germany and Ukraine.
The concern is also known to be planning to open at least four plants in Ukraine.
