The central branch of Ukrposhta in Ternopil lost a registered letter with important documents of foreign students of the Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU), "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to ZAXID.NET.

The documents, which were sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on December 4, 2024, contained apostilled secondary education certificates and college diplomas required for graduation.

According to the tracking number, the shipment has been in the logistics center of Ternopil for a month and a half, but postal service employees cannot find it. The university’s appeal to the management of the Ternopil branch of Ukrposhta did not receive a clear answer.

“This registered letter contains apostilled documents of two foreign students confirming their previous education in foreign educational institutions. All these documents are necessary for the issuance of a diploma upon completion of their studies at the university. Apostilled certificates from foreign educational institutions are very expensive documents that take a long time to produce,”

– explained TNMU spokesperson Yanina Chaikivska.

After an official request from the deputy dean of the Faculty of Foreign Students, Oleksandr Tokarsky, Ukrposhta sent compensation of 109 hryvnias to the university’s accounting department for the lost correspondence.

The management of the medical university appealed to Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smelyansky with a demand to establish the work of the Ternopil branch and return the documents. The university emphasizes that this is not the first time that this branch has lost important correspondence.

“Due to the negligence of postal workers in the Ternopil region, important international and domestic government correspondence has been repeatedly lost and not delivered to addressees. Such cases undermine not only the image of the university, but also create big problems for it,”

– the university said in a statement.

Employees of the Ternopil branch of Ukrposhta refused to comment on the situation, advising them to contact the central office.

Ukrposhta did not comment on the situation. The latest posts by Ukrposhta and its CEO Ihor Smelyansky on social media are mostly about stamps and memes.

Meanwhile, charitable contributions at Ukrposhta have become compulsory, and Ukrposhta CEO Smelyansky receives up to UAH 2 million in salary per month.
