“Ukrposhta has introduced new restrictions: what changes will take place on November 1

Starting November 1, Ukrposhta will switch to automated sorting of shipments, which will allow it to deliver parcels between cities in one day. For this purpose, new packaging standards are being introduced, the company’s press service said, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Ukrposhta is introducing two new concepts – manual and automated sorting and, accordingly, updating packaging standards for shipments that will be processed automatically.

“Soon, more than 95% of parcels delivered by Ukrposhta will be processed on automated sorting lines, which means fast and high-quality delivery to our customers. However, this requires that the parcels are properly packed. A parcel that is not packed securely can not only be damaged, but also stop the line, which will lead to delays for thousands of customers,” explained Igor Smelyansky, CEO of the company.

Ukrposhta has also announced discounts on packaging materials, and customers will be able to receive a free package for shipments weighing up to 2 kg.

“That is why, starting from November 1, we are introducing new packaging standards and reducing prices for packaging materials to provide the most convenient service and lowest prices. For example, we will provide a free package for parcels up to 2 kg, and for parcels you can buy a box starting at UAH 5. However, starting from November 11, we will stop accepting improperly packaged parcels for automated sorting, in garbage bags, etc.”, Smelyansky said.

The new requirements come into effect on November 1, 2024, but for the convenience of customers, the company has made a transition period until November 11.

“Starting November 11, Ukrposhta will stop accepting improperly packaged items for automated sorting, such as parcels in garbage bags or other unreliable packaging,” Smelyansky added.

Packaging requirements

All parcels that will be processed on automated lines must be packed in sturdy boxes or special plastic bags that match the size of the parcels. For the convenience of customers, Ukrposhta provides packages for small parcels free of charge.

Customers can also use their own boxes if they meet the requirements for reliability and preservation of the integrity of the parcels. The company will not accept parcels in ordinary cardboard boxes (not corrugated), with bulging surfaces or with damage such as dents, tears or stains.

What happens if the parcel is without a box?

If the parcel does not have proper packaging, you can buy it directly at a Ukrposhta branch.

For the convenience of customers during the transition period, prices for packaging materials are reduced.

Sending non-standard sizes

Parcels of non-boxed format, with sharp or protruding parts, without a flat base, with non-standard dimensions are not suitable for processing by automated sorting lines. They will be processed manually.

The cost of such shipments is higher and is calculated according to the tariff for oversized shipments (you can find the tariffs here ).
