Ukrzaliznytsia has tightened safety rules in response to Russian attacks: a train car must not become a trap
24 March 23:25
Ukrzaliznytsia has tightened safety rules for passengers due to the increased risk of Russian attacks on transportation infrastructure. In the event of a threat during a trip, passengers may be evacuated directly from the train cars. This was reported by the company’s press service, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Why the safety rules were tightened
Ukrzaliznytsia noted that the new safety measures are related to the increase in Russian attacks on railway infrastructure and the need to respond quickly to potential threats.
“To ensure your trip remains predictable and safe, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the basic evacuation rules in advance and strictly following the conductors’ instructions,” the company said.
What passengers should do in case of a threat
If a danger signal is received, passengers are advised to:
- immediately prepare for evacuation
- get dressed
- keep documents and a phone nearby
- remain in their seats until instructed by the conductor
- notify the conductor if assistance is needed.
How evacuation from the train takes place
After the train stops and the appropriate signal is given, you must:
- calmly leave the car
- do not cause a panic
- do not take large suitcases
- help children and the elderly
- be careful on the tracks.
The company emphasizes that the most important thing is to act in an organized manner and avoid crowding.
What to do after exiting the car
After evacuation, passengers are advised to:
- proceed to a shelter as quickly as possible
- move to a safe distance from the train
- not to crowd around the cars
- follow the instructions of railway personnel
As the company explains, the train may remain a potential target for attacks.
In the event of nearby explosions, it is recommended to:
- lie face down on the ground
- open your mouth to reduce the risk of concussion
- cover your head with your belongings.
Important tips for passengers traveling with children
There are specific recommendations for passengers traveling with children.
“If you are traveling with children, convey a sense of calm to them, speak confidently, and offer encouragement. Bring their favorite toy or treats,” noted Ukrzaliznytsia.
Also, in cold weather, passengers are allowed to take blankets from the train cars during an evacuation.
When can you return to the car
You may return to the train only after an official signal indicating that the danger has passed.
To do this, you must:
- wait for the conductor’s command
- cross the tracks carefully
- watch for oncoming trains
Why this is important
Recently, Russian troops have repeatedly attacked Ukraine’s railway infrastructure.
Specifically:
- in March, a Russian drone attacked a passenger train in the Sumy region
- commuter trains in the Kharkiv region were damaged
- railway stations came under attack
