“Ukrzaliznytsia suspends traffic to Donetsk region: what happened and how passengers get there

5 November 22:49

“Ukrzaliznytsia has temporarily restricted the movement of Kramatorsk trains to the borders of Kharkiv region due to the security situation. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by the head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Vadym Filashkin and a post by Ukrzaliznytsia.

The decision was made jointly with the Donetsk Regional Military Administration due to the security threat in the region.

“The decision is dictated by security factors, so passengers of all 5 long-distance trains of the Kramatorsk direction will receive detailed notifications about the final station in the UZ app on the day of departure,” he said.

What has changed in train traffic

Starting November 6, long-distance trains of the Kramatorsk direction will run only to the stations of Husarivka or Barvinkove (Kharkiv region).

The changes affect five long-distance trains that used to run to Kramatorsk.

Passengers will receive detailed information about the changed final station directly in the Ukrzaliznytsia app on the day of departure.

How to get to Kramatorsk and Sloviansk now

To ensure communication with the cities of Donetsk region, Donetsk JMA has organized bus shuttles between Kramatorsk, Sloviansk and the temporary train terminals.

Conductors and station staff help passengers find their way around, accompany them during transfers, and control boarding.

Which destinations are still limited

Temporary changes also apply to suburban services in Donetsk region, including

  • bantysheve – Kramatorsk;
  • slaviansk – Rayhorodok.

All these decisions are temporary and will remain in effect until the security situation stabilizes.

Why the decision was made

As explained by Ukrzaliznytsia and Donetsk JMA, the top priority is the safety of passengers and railroad employees.

Due to active hostilities and the risk of shelling near the front line, rail service in the direction of Kramatorsk is currently unsafe.

“People’s safety is the top priority. We will resume traffic as soon as it becomes possible,” emphasized Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk JMA.

When traffic can be resumed

“Ukrzaliznytsia, in coordination with the Defense Forces and law enforcement, is constantly monitoring the situation in the region.

Trains to Kramatorsk and Sloviansk will be resumed as soon as the security risks are reduced.
