“Ukrzaliznytsia is testing verification through Diia.Signature to counteract ticket fraud

Starting August 1, Ukrzaliznytsia will introduce passenger verification via Diia.Signature for purchasing and refunding tickets for a number of popular domestic flights in a test mode. This was reported by the company, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

At the first stage, the new rules will apply to the following flights:

  • #105/106 Odesa – Kyiv
  • no. 91/92 Lviv – Kyiv
  • no. 29/30 Kyiv – Uzhhorod
  • no. 12 Lviv – Odesa
  • no. 27/28 Kyiv – Chop

Tickets for these destinations will be sold exclusively online, through the system with identity verification using Diia.Signature. It will be impossible to buy them at the ticket office.

At the same time, the innovations will not affect tickets from the special reserve for the military – they can still be issued through the services of Ukrzaliznytsia and Army.

The company noted that it is also working on introducing BankID authorization in the app.

“We continue to use all possible mechanisms to reduce the number of abuses when buying tickets,” Ukrzaliznytsia emphasized.

The problem of overbuying and fraud

Since the beginning of summer, which is the peak travel season, passengers have increasingly complained about the inability to buy tickets to popular destinations, as they disappear within minutes of the opening of sales. Meanwhile, Telegram channels offer tickets 2-3 times more expensive.

In response, Ukrzaliznytsia has already blocked more than 2,800 accounts for violating the rules. Currently, verification through Diia is already in place for international flights, and the company plans to extend this practice to domestic destinations.

Control of documents during boarding will also be strengthened: random checks with the participation of paramilitary guards will be conducted at railway stations. In addition, the OLX platform has started blocking fraudulent ads for reselling tickets.

For the high season, Ukrzaliznytsia is scheduling additional flights and announcing “optimization of each carriage” to increase the number of seats.
