Ukrzaliznytsia is changing the route of trains on one of its lines: what is known about the delays

3 April 07:43

Repair work is underway near Kolomak, so the routes of two trains have been diverted to an alternate route. This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to official information, trains No. 94 Kholm–Kharkiv and No. 8 Odesa–Kharkiv have departed on an alternate route via Poltava-Kyivska–Poltava-Pivdenna–Berestyn–Merefa, bypassing Lyubotin. The expected delay is up to two hours.

These changes followed an incident on the section where, the day before, the journey of train No. 21/22 Kharkiv–Lviv was interrupted by a truck at a railroad crossing.

Ukrzaliznytsia clarified that the passengers on this train had already been accommodated in backup cars, and at the time of the report, they were passing through Myrhorod.

What happened near Kolomak

The key reason for the changes is repair work near Kolomak, which has been ongoing since the incident at the crossing. This is precisely why Ukrzaliznytsia was forced to reroute some trains to a backup schedule. The company directly linked the new route changes to the work on this section.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia’s announcement, this does not involve a general cancellation of trains, but rather a temporary detour around the problematic section. In other words, trains continue to run but will arrive in Kharkiv late. This is important for passengers planning transfers or meetings at arrival stations.

Which trains have changed their route

As of now, Ukrzaliznytsia has officially announced two additional trains that have been rerouted:

  • No. 94 Kholm — Kharkiv
  • No. 8 Odessa — Kharkiv

Both trains are traveling via Poltava-Kyivska, Poltava-Pivdenna, Berestyn, and Merefa, without stopping at Lyubotin. Ukrzaliznytsia estimates a possible delay for these trains of up to 2 hours.

Why passengers should pay particular attention to the route via Poltava

The published alternate route is not random. UZ schedule data show that both Poltava-Kyivska and Poltava-Pivdenna are active hub stations for passenger trains on this route. That is why the detour via Poltava allows service to continue without a complete halt, redirecting trains to an alternate track.

This means that the changes affect not only arrival times but also the actual route of the journey. For passengers, this is important primarily in two cases: if someone planned to board or disembark at the affected section, and if there are further transfers after arriving in Kharkiv. This is a logical conclusion based on the very fact of the detour and the announced delay.

What about the Kharkiv–Lviv train

Separately, Ukrzaliznytsia reported on the situation with train No. 21/22 Kharkiv–Lviv, whose journey was interrupted the previous day by a truck at a railroad crossing.

Passengers have already been transferred to reserve cars, and the train has continued on its route. At the time of the official announcement, the train was passing through Myrhorod.

What this means for passengers

The main practical takeaway is this: trains on the Kharkiv route have not been canceled, but some of them are taking a detour and may be delayed by up to 2 hours. Passengers should check the current status of their trip and account for possible changes in arrival times.

If your trip involves transfers, meeting someone at the station, or traveling further in the region, it is especially important to allow for extra time right now. This is due to the officially announced delay and ongoing work near Kolomak.
