Umerov named key topics for negotiations with Russia

During the first day of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi involving Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian Federation, the parties discussed the parameters of a possible end to the war and the further logic of the negotiation process. The meetings are set to continue on January 24. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, published on Telegram.

Who participated in the negotiations

According to Umerov, on the first day of the negotiations, he, together with Kirill Budanov, David Arakhamia, and Sergey Kislitsa, took part in a trilateral meeting with the participation of delegations from Ukraine, the US, and the Russian Federation.

“In Abu Dhabi, together with Kirill Budanov, David Arakhamia, and Serhiy Kyslytsya, we took part in a trilateral meeting between the Ukrainian, American, and Russian sides. We appreciate the American mediation,” said the NSDC secretary.

He also announced that on January 24, the Ukrainian delegation will be joined by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Andriy Hnatov, and the Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Vadym Skibitsky.

Composition of the US and Russian delegations

The following individuals participated in the consultations on behalf of the United States:

  • Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
  • Jared Kushner,
  • Josh Greenbaum,
  • General Daniel Driscoll,
  • General Alex Grinkevich.

According to Umerov, the Russian side was represented by representatives of military intelligence and the Russian armed forces.

Coordination with the President of Ukraine

The NSDC secretary emphasized that he keeps Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed about the results of each stage of the negotiations.

“The Ukrainian team is working cohesively within the framework of the tasks set by President Zelensky. We are ready to work in different formats depending on the course of the dialogue,” Umerov stressed.

According to him, the negotiation process is ongoing, and further steps will depend on the dynamics of the dialogue between the parties.
