UPG launches rebranding of Kolomoisky’s gas stations in Kyiv

The rebranding of the ANP gas station complex, formerly owned by businessman Ihor Kolomoisky, has started in Kyiv. The work is being carried out at the gas station located on Mykola Mikhnovsky Boulevard (formerly Druzhby Narodiv). This was reported by the specialized edition enkorr, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The network upgrade process became possible after the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine allowed Ukrpaletsystem (the owner of the UPG brand) to take control of assets belonging to Privat Group structures. In particular, it concerns the lease of 34 gas stations in Kyiv region.

According to UPG co-owner Volodymyr Petrenko, he signed a lease agreement with an “unknown director” of the chain. In a commentary to Forbes, he clarified that the cost of rebranding one facility is about UAH 1 million, and it will take about eight months to modernize the capital’s gas stations.

The ANP complex on Mikhnovsky Boulevard, where work has already begun, was previously considered the flagship of Privat’s network: in the best of times, it sold more than 35,000 liters of fuel per day.

The gas stations associated with Ihor Kolomoisky’s Privat group are one of the largest networks of gas stations in Ukraine, operating under several brands:

Key facts:

Brands:

  • ANP, Avias, Sentosa Oil, Ukrnafta (partially), Mavex, ZOG – all of them are connected to Privat’s business structures.
  • In fact, they operated as a single network with unified logistics, pricing and marketing.

Scale:

  • In its most active years, the group controlled more than 1,500 gas stations across the country.
  • It was one of the cheapest networks on the market due to direct access to Ukrnafta’s resources and optimization of operating costs.

Financial structure and ownership:

  • Formally, the filling stations were registered with dozens of legal entities, which complicated legal regulation and the imposition of sanctions.
  • Some assets were owned, while others were leased.

Problems with the law:

  • After the start of de-oligarchization and the full-scale invasion of Russia, the business group’s activities came under scrutiny from the state:
    • in 2022, some of the group’s assets (including Ukrnafta) were transferred to state management (ARMA).
    • Criminal proceedings were opened against Ihor Kolomoisky, and some of his assets were seized.

As of 2025:

  • Many gas stations previously operated under Privativ’s brands are leased to new market players, including UPG, WOG, and OKKO.
  • Some of the stations have fallen into disrepair, while others are being taken over by new management and rebranded.

Kolomoisky’s gas stations are one of the largest fuel infrastructures in the history of Ukraine, created through a complex network of companies. It is now gradually falling out of the oligarch’s control, and new business structures are being formed on its basis.
