In the context of the war and the mobilisation of men into the Armed Forces, the Ukrainian labour market is undergoing significant changes. Women are increasingly choosing professions that were previously considered to be purely male. This was announced by Yulia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy, during a meeting with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

According to the Ukrainian minister, the mobilisation of specialists into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has become a serious challenge for the national economy.

“We now need to pay more attention to retraining programmes for Ukrainians who remain in the rear to the professions that are in maximum demand. First and foremost, we are talking about women who are already mastering the once purely “male” professions. For example, bodyguards, truck, bus or even tractor drivers – these are the realities of the labour market today,”

– the official said.

She added that retraining specialists, along with the employment of veterans, are the main challenges for the government in the labour market.

“The EBRD will consider the possibility of financially supporting the implementation of relevant retraining programmes, both by the state and by Ukrainian business,”

– said Svyrydenko.

Women doctors will not be hired without a military ID.
