Success during the war: McDonald’s shows impressive growth in Ukraine

The fast food chain McDonald’s in Ukraine showed impressive growth in financial performance in the first half of 2024. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to Forbes.
According to YouControl, the company’s revenue increased by 44% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching UAH 7.8 billion.
The profit growth is even more impressive. In the first six months of 2024, McDonald’s profit in Ukraine totalled UAH 874.8 million, up 82% compared to the first half of 2023 (UAH 479.8 million).
Despite the challenging economic situation in the country, the company continues to grow. In the first half of 2024, a new restaurant was opened in Chernivtsi, while the one near Kyiv Central Railway Station was closed for reconstruction. Overall, the company plans to open at least 6 new restaurants in Ukraine in 2024.
McDonald’s ceased operations in Ukraine on 24 February 2022, citing security concerns. The company resumed operations in September of the same year.
In 2022, the chain’s revenue totalled UAH 3.2 billion, but the company suffered a loss of UAH 2 billion. Nevertheless, three new restaurants were opened with investments of around UAH 170 million.
the year 2023 showed an improvement in financial performance. Revenue increased to UAH 12.9 billion, and profit was UAH 1 billion. McDonald’s opened 10 new restaurants, investing a total of UAH 1 billion. The company also began to locate restaurants near major motorways.

Initially, it was a small hamburger restaurant, but after Ray Kroc joined the company in 1955, he began the process of turning McDonald’s into a global franchise. McDonald’s is known for its standard menu, which includes hamburgers, fries, soft drinks, milkshakes, chicken nuggets, salads and desserts. In addition, the company is constantly introducing new items to the menu and adapting it to the cultural characteristics of different countries.
McDonald’s appeared in Ukraine on 24 May 1997, when the first restaurant was opened in Kyiv. Since then, the chain has expanded significantly, and today McDonald’s has more than 100 restaurants in different cities of Ukraine. McDonald’s is one of the most popular fast food outlets in Ukraine.
