The SBI reported three accidents involving NABU employees at once

21 July 14:33

The Office of the Prosecutor General, based on materials from the State Bureau of Investigation, has notified three employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine of suspicion of committing road accidents that resulted in serious injuries to the victims. This was written on the SBI website, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

It is worth noting that the SBI did not report when exactly these three different traffic accidents occurred, but for some reason decided to combine them into one news report, as if they had been committed yesterday or today within one day. Also, the SBI does not say when the suspects were notified of suspicion.

Details of the three separate incidents

The first accident in Kyiv – an NABU employee, leaving a secondary road, collided with a car traveling on the main road. After the collision, his car continued to move and drove off the roadway, where it hit a pedestrian bystander. The victim sustained serious injuries that resulted in the amputation of his left lower limb.

The second accident occurred on the Kyiv-Odesa highway: a law enforcement officer failed to choose a safe speed while overtaking on the 61st kilometer of the highway and drove off the roadway. The car overturned and crashed into a gas station building. The passenger was seriously injured: multiple fractures, a ruptured spleen, and a brain contusion.

The third accident in Kyiv – an NABU employee in a company car hit a pedestrian crossing the road on a green light at a regulated intersection. The victim sustained moderate injuries.

Legal implications

The Deputy Prosecutor General reportedly served all three suspects with a notice of suspicion of violation of traffic safety rules (Article 286 (1) and (2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is currently being decided. The prosecution will request custody for at least two of the suspects.

If proven guilty, the law enforcement officers face up to 8 years in prison.

This triple report of incidents that occurred at an unknown date comes as the “war of agencies” intensifies, with the NABU coming under particular pressure: the SBU is currently conducting searches of the bureau’s detectives.
